Dear Women Friends,
My mother had a heart attack in January, broke her hip in February, and developed pneumonia in March. I’m going home.
My mother’s illness is more a catalyst than a reason for my decision to move back to Blacksburg, Virginia, the place I spent most of the first half of my life. After twenty-three years in Tampa, moving to Virginia feels like going to Walden Pond. I have loved my Tampa life – with you in it! – and I will love my Virginia life as well. I will finish my master’s degree in counseling and then take a one-way flight to Virginia on July 24.
Another catalyst was reading Jane Juska’s A Round-Heeled Woman: My Late-Life Adventures in Sex and Romance. The author placed an ad in a national publication asking for what she felt was most missing in her life. I asked myself what was most missing and discovered life-changing answers.
Read it if you dare!
