Women Coloring

A Woman's Life Work
What: An Afternoon of Women Coloring

When: Sunday, December 28, 2014, 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM

WhereAnne’s Place – Directions

Program:

“Coloring is an activity that we tend to associate with children. As we grow older, we put aside our crayons and colored pencils in favor of more respectable writing utensils like pens and highlighters. However, it turns out coloring can be beneficial for adults…The practice generates wellness, quietness and also stimulates brain areas related to motor skills, the senses and creativity.”
– Elena Santos, The Huffington Post

“Who said adults can’t use coloring books? Johanna Basford, a talented illustrator and artists in the UK, has created a series of coloring books that have become wildly popular, selling more than a million copies.” (Added 3/18/2015)

“French women have taken en masse to colouring books…”
– Rory Mulholland, The Telegraph

I’m glad to learn research supports the psychological and physical merits of coloring and that French women are already coloring, research or no. Sometimes knowing the reason to do something helps me do it. But I can struggle with allowing myself to do something that produces results that I am the only one who values.

I love to color. When I remember coloring side-by-side with my sister as a child, I get tears in my eyes. Her company made all the difference.

Want to come over and color with me?!

I’ve got crayons and coloring books.

We’ll have coffee and tea, filtered water from the tap, and some kind of healthy, substantive afternoon snack. If you have special food needs, feel free to bring food servings for yourself so that you can feel comfortable.

What to bring:

  • Yourself
  • Your own crayons if you would like, but I have plenty
  • Your own coloring books if Barbie and Disney princesses aren’t your fav
  • Personal food or beverages if you would like

What to do:

Email Anne Giles at anne@annegiles.com or call her at 540-808-6334 to reserve a space. Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendance is limited to 14 participants.

Special notes:

  • Anne’s Place is an alcohol-free space.
  • Anne has two indoor-outdoor cats that reside primarily upstairs and keep to themselves. Cleanliness is maintained to help keep those with cat allergies as comfortable as possible.
  • If you smoke, please use the side porch and the smokers’ receptacle.
  • This session of A Woman’s Life Work is a private event, invitation-only, and for adults only.
  • Anne attends a support group meeting so will need to close the house at 5:30 PM to allow for drive time. It is an open meeting and all are welcome.
